Thank you for your donation in memory of Kurt Edward Young. Kurt was a graduate of the UC Aerospace Engineering program and had a 40 year career at GE Military Aircraft Engines, specializing in fan blades.

Kurt’s family has directed memorial donations to the Edna Shafer and Eleanor Young Memorial GED Scholarship at Sinclair Community College. The fund honors Kurt's grandmother, Edna Shafer and mother, Professor Emeritus Eleanor Young, who retired from Sinclair in 1996 after serving as a faculty member and administrator at Sinclair Community College since 1971. Highlights of Dr. Young’s administrative contributions include: serving as Assistant to the Vice President of Instruction (1981-1994) with major responsibilities for professional development for both faculty and staff as well as overseeing curriculum development for all academic departments with the final submission to the Ohio Board of Regents for approval., acting Dean of the General Studies Division (1982), and acting Vice President for Student Services (1983-84).

The Edna Shafer and Eleanor Young Memorial GED Scholarship was established to provide scholarships for students, including students enrolled in the Aviation Technology/Professional Pilot, to encourage study for nontraditional, degree-seeking college students with financial need that would otherwise prevent them from being enrolled at Sinclair.
